An Operating System is the low-level software that manages a PC. It controls how the hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices including a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between the installed applications, and the prioritization of apps in case several run at once. Each program that's installed on a PC operates by sending requests to the OS for different services via an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS is possible via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting world, the Operating System is what runs a web hosting server together with any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application such as a VOIP or a game server. If there are virtual machines created, they use a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

The dedicated server solutions that we offer come with as many as three different Operating Systems to pick from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license taxes, but they’re also known as the most stable and secure OSs. We supply three different ones since each of them is backed by a different community. The packages which you can add on your server are different and this may matter in case you want to install some piece of software with particular requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the web hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the Operating System that you'll select. You can select any of the three Operating Systems during the order process, however if necessary, we can always set up the server anew with an alternative one upon your request. As an additional service that you can add to the plan at any moment, we can update the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible.
