DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is a validation system used to confirm that an e-mail has been sent by an authenticated server or individual. An e-signature is attached to the message’s header using a private cryptographic key. When the email is received, a public key that’s available in the global Domain Name System is used to verify who actually sent it and whether the content has been changed in some way. The principal task of DKIM is to block the widely spread spam and scam messages, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If an email is sent from an email address claiming to belong to your bank or financial institution, for example, but the signature does not correspond, you will either not receive the email at all, or you will get it with a warning that most probably it’s not genuine. It depends on email service providers what exactly will happen with an email that fails to pass the signature examination. DomainKeys Identified Mail will also give you an extra protection layer when you communicate with your business allies, for instance, since they can see for themselves that all the e-mails that you exchange are legitimate and haven’t been manipulated in the meantime.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail option is pre-enabled for all domains that are hosted in a hosting account on our cloud hosting platform, so you won’t have to do anything yourself to activate it. The sole requirement is that the particular domain should be hosted in a hosting account on our end using our MX and NS records, so that the e-mails will go through our email servers. The private encryption key will be created on the server and the TXT record, which includes the public key, will be published to the DNS database automatically, so you will not need to do anything manually on your end in order to activate this functionality. The DKIM email validation system will permit you to send out trustworthy email messages, so if you are sending offers or a newsletter to clients, for instance, your email messages will always reach their target destination, whereas unauthorized 3rd parties won’t be able to forge your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers

The DomainKeys Identified Mail option is offered by default with any domain that is registered through a semi-dedicated server account with us. The domain must also use our name servers, so that its DNS records are handled by our system. The latter makes it possible for a special TXT record to be set up, which is in fact the public key that confirms if a particular email is genuine or not. This record is created as soon as a new domain is added to a semi-dedicated account through the Hepsia Control Panel and in the meantime, a private key is generated on our email servers. If you use our web and email hosting services, your emails will always reach their target destination and you will not have to worry about unsolicited persons using your email addresses for scamming or spamming purposes, which is something really important if you use emails to reach your business collaborators.
